Transcon Welcomes...

Shane Michelson

We are pleased to announce that Shane Michelson has joined the Transcon Team.

Transcon Livestock Corp is very excited to announce that Shane Michelson has accepted the position of Saskatchewan fieldman. Shane and his wife and their two children, co-manage his parents successful 9000 acre grain farm about 1 hour northeast of Regina, Sask. near the town of Lipton. The Michelson families also operate an excellent Simmental and Limousin commercial herd. Shane also maintains a small nucleus of high quality registered Black Angus and Charolais. Shane has gained a reputation as one of the best in the business for presenting cattle at some of the most major shows in North America including Denver's National Western and Regina's Agribition. Shane's presence combined with his great people skills and his incredible business sense will make him a fitting addition to the Transcon Team.

Glenn Norton

Glenn was born and raised at Drayton Valley, AB and their family started breeding Simmental in 1972.  He was involved with 4-H and the YCS programs and showed cattle at Farmfair and Agribition, with many championships over two decades.  As Norton Simmentals they sold their bulls at the ASA Camrose Bull Sale and then the Top Guns Bull Sale.  In 2006 they dispersed their 200 head cowherd in a very well-received dispersal sale.

Since then, Glenn has stayed on the farm calving 160 head of crossbred cows in April and May, raising his two boys Riley & Rayn with the help of his wife Michelle.

Their boys are now starting school which leaves Glenn more time for this new endeavor.  Glenn brings more than 25 years of experience in this business to Transcon and we are glad to have him on The Team.

Shellaine Kientz

Shellaine is part of a large ranching operation west of Okotoks.  They have a large commercial cowherd running Simmental and Angus bulls.  Shellaine had a Purebred Saler herd years ago and fully understands the paperwork needed in this business.  She is the most competent person we have had in our history for inputting pedigree information, footnotes, etc and helps Heather with transferring papers, etc.  She was an extremely valuable addition to The Team.

Jay Good
Jay Good

Jay started with Transcon in 1996. Jay grew up in a purebred beef family in Central Alberta, then when his dad dispersed, ran a successful business managing show strings at major shows in Canada and the U.S. Jay's youth, enthusiasm, cattle knowledge, and love of the Simmental breed and its breeders has quickly gained him a stature and credibility.

Jay's visits to over 200 farms every year communicating with breeders keeps him in tune with what breeder's big and small need. Jay's success as an order buyer also is unprecedented and he has very quickly gained the confidence of buyers who allow him to represent them at the sale in their absence. Jay's manner on the auction block with the auctioneer is as good, or better, than any other in this field. He understands that his job is to enhance the value of the animal in the sale ring. His knowledge of the program behind the sale animal, gained while doing farm visits, is invaluable to the marketing of the animal.

Bob James
Bob James

Bob started with the Charolais Banner after graduating from the U of A in Agriculture Economics in 1978, working up to editor and part owner. In 1984 when the Banner was sold, he came on stream with Transcon. Bob is involved in all decisions relating to Transcon business and is now one of the three owners of Transcon, the other two Jay Good and Heather James. Bob's 20+ years with Transcon adds to the stability of the company.

Heather James
Heather James

Heather, Bob's wife, joined Transcon in 1985. She brought with her experience in banking and bookkeeping. Heather has been office manager responsible for sale accounting, corporate accounting, transfer of registration papers to new owners, press releases, and all details that enable Transcon to clean up a sale in a timely manner and move on to the next. As the saying goes, "The job is not complete until the paperwork is done". Heather gets the paperwork done!

Bob Wilson
Bob Wilson

Bob Wilson joined Transcon in 1971 and with the exception of a couple of short stints in other livestock associated fields, has been here ever since. Bob is "Mr Cool", but not in the modern sense. He just quietly does the job whether it is checking tattoos of sale animals, assisting with the sale order, clerking and settling the sale, or order buying while he is doing all of the above. He is just, "Competent Bob". He has likely bought more animals for absentee buyers than anyone past or present in this business.

Rodney James
Rodney James
Rodney James is now officially retired, but he is still proud to wear a Transcon cap and is seen at quite a few sales still (when the sales don't interfere with his travelling).
Rodney has been in various aspects of the purebred beef business most of his working life. He was one of the founders of the Canadian Charolais Association in 1959, became General Manager in 1962, and during his tenure organized the importation and transportation of the first Charolais direct from Europe and subsequently the other European breeds.

In 1966 he was a founding partner of the Canadian Charolais Banner and the following year saw his introduction into the purebred beef sales management business when Charcan Services Ltd. was formed to specifically manage Charolais sales. As the other new European breeds made their way to Canada there was an obvious need to market them and therefore Transcon Livestock was launched.
